Omotayo Arotiba received BSc (Hons) Industrial Chemistry (1998) from the University of Ilorin (Nigeria), MSc Industrial Chemistry (2004) from the University of Benin (Nigeria) and PhD Chemistry (2009) from SensorLab, Department of Chemistry, University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa. He carried out postdoctoral research for two years at UWC, University of Cape Town and University of Johannesburg (UJ) in South Africa. He joined UJ as a Senior Lecturer in 2011 and he is now a full Professor at the Department of Chemical Sciences (since 2016) and the Director of the Centre for Nanomaterials Science Research. Prof Arotiba’s research focus includes the development of electrochemical, photo-electrochemical and sono-electrochemical systems for water treatment; electrochemical sensors & biosensors; and materials electrochemistry. He has published over 169 articles in journals of international repute with Scopus h index of 43 and 6302 citations (Google Scholar h index of 48 with 7693 citations). He has supervised 19 PhDs and 22 MSc (17 with distinction) at UJ. He is the chairman of the Electrochemistry division of the South African Chemical Institute. He is a member of the International Society of Electrochemistry, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and a Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria.
