The 2025 National Chemistry Week (NCW) event themed “The Hidden Life of Spices” was a vibrant and engaging celebration hosted by the ACS Nigeria Chapter. Participants embarked on an exciting journey exploring the secrets of flavour, aroma, and health through chemistry. The week was packed with interactive activities, including a Home Chemistry Day with a social media challenge, a virtual day ceremony and guest lecture, a factory tour that offered an insightful visit into spice processing, and outreach events in schools and communities, culminating with CHEMFEST. Attendees enthusiastically joined these hands-on sessions, making the event both educational and lively.
A highlight of the week was the virtual guest lecture by Professor Irfan Z. Khan from the University of Maiduguri, who captivated the audience with his knowledge on how chemistry transforms ordinary spices into extraordinary sources of wonder. The discussions sparked curiosity and deepened appreciation for the science behind everyday spices. The collaborative efforts of organizers, volunteers, and guest speakers ensured a memorable experience for everyone, successfully merging scientific discovery with fun and community participation.
