Umoh, Sampson Dominic

Sampson Dominic Umoh is a young Chemistry Enthusiast born in Lagos Island of Nigeria; He started his Academic career as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi-Nigeria. He was the best graduating student of his class for Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and won the Engr. Okon Amazi Prize at the 17th and 18th convocation of the University of Uyo, Nigeria. He has been a tireless promoter of the study and practice of Chemistry and chemistry related professions among his peers since 2006 to date. This led to his Award of Excellence for outstanding contributions to the society by Students` Chemical Society of Nigeria (SCSN) in 2007, SCSN Award Certificate of Service in 2008, Meritorious Award as National President, Students` Chemical Society of Nigeria in 2009, Award as an Ambassador/Elder of the SCSN in 2010 and a recognition as an American Chemical Society (ACS) Chemistry Ambassador in 2015 for promoting the value of chemists and chemistry to the community among other recognitions and awards from other chemistry/chemistry related bodies.

Umoh served as a pioneer Executive Committee member of the American Chemical Society – Nigeria International Chemical Sciences chapter during which period, He promoted membership growth, facilitated the organisation of the first ever ACS Chemistry festival in Nigeria (first activity to be organized by the ACS Nigeria International Chapter, the first to be hosted in Africa and the seventh globally after Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Puerto Rico and China). He was part of the first ever joint ACS Students` Chapter activity in Nigeria, “ACS Future Scientists` Symposium 2017” where he served as an Editorial Board Member and collaborated with the lead Student Advisor (ACS-UAM Student Chapter) in the establishment, activities and running of the ACS University of Agriculture, Makurdi Student Chapter until 2017. He played significant roles during all previous Annual symposia of the ACS Nigeria International Chapter and consistently managed the website design and its contents until 2017 aside his role as Assistant Secretary (2014 – 2018) to this International Chapter. Umoh is also affiliated with other Chemistry and Chemistry related bodies in different capacities and status respectively. He is currently studying for the Award of Doctor of Philosophy in Organic Chemistry at the University of Botswana, Gaborone Botswana. His research interests are medicinal chemistry, plant Natural Products/separation science, stereochemistry, spectroscopy, biosynthetic pathways and synthetic organic chemistry with bias for drug discovery, development and production. Umoh is happily married to Maria Sampson Umoh and they are blessed with two children, Dominic and Eno-Abasi Sampson Umoh
